You do realize oil is natural right? It also naturally leaks from different spots around the globe. The Florida Keys are notorious for this as well as a famous tar pit in Los Angeles.
Yes, natural leaks are quite common. I grew up in Los Angeles and visited the LaBrea tar pits frequently. The viking Poseidon is always down there with ROV's and only filmed this because they haven't encountered seepage here before. If this is the beginning of a natural leak in this area, the timing alone makes it subject to further investigation.
